Amazon is centralizing its cybersecurity operations under longtime Amazon Web Services chief information security officer Stephen Schmidt.

In his new role, Schmidt will report directly to Amazon CEO Andy Jassy as a member of the “S-team,” a group of 29 senior executives who set business priorities, a spokesperson confirmed.

Putting one person in charge of companywide cybersecurity will make it easier to standardize security practices across Amazon, the spokesperson said in an email. She added that Schmidt’s promotion had been in the works for months.

Schmidt joined AWS in 2008 as software director and assumed the division’s CISO job two years later, according to his LinkedIn profile.

In his new role, Schmidt will have the title Chief Security Officer. CJ Moses, who is replacing Schmidt as AWS CISO; Four Flynn, CISO of Amazon’s consumer division; and Lakshmi Hanspal, CISO for Devices, will report to Schmidt, the spokesperson confirmed.

Before joining Chanel as a Corporate Asset Protection Executive, Anton spent more than two years with Target as Executive Team Leader – Asset Protection. Prior to that, he served more than three years with Barneys New York as a Loss Prevention Manager. Before joining Dollar General as Asset Protection Operations Senior Analyst, Matt spent nearly three years with Allied Universal as Enterprise Accounts Project Manager. Prior to that, he held roles with Safe Environment Business Solutions Inc. Earlier in his career, he served as Investigations Manager for Five Below and held AP/LP roles with Turkey Hill and Sears. He also spent nearly five years as a Police Officer with the City of Key West Florida. Congratulations, Matt!

Ben has been with H-E-B for more than six years, starting with the company in 2015 as Area Loss Prevention Manager, a position he held for more than four years. Before his promotion to Director of Loss Prevention/Security, he spent more than two years as Senior Area Loss Prevention Manager for the company. Prior to joining H-E-B, he spent more than two years with Old Navy as Multi Market District LP Manager and Territory ORC/External Investigations Manager. Earlier in his career, he held LP roles with Macy’s, TJX Companies, Walmart and Kmart. Congratulations, Ben!

Suzie has been with Rite Aid for more than two decades, starting with the company in 1999 as Training & Development Specialist when it was formerly Eckerd Corporation. Over the years, she held multiple roles, including Regional Training Supervisor, District Front-End Supervisor, and District Manager Asset Protection. Congratulations, Suzie!

Justin has been with Goodwill of Central & Northern Arizona for more than a year. Before his promotion to Manager, Safety & Loss Control, he served as Risk Management – Safety Administrator. Salient Systems appoints first Chief Security Officer

Salient Systems, a leader in open architecture video management software solutions, has announced that Keith Aubele CPP, LPP has been named as the company’s Chief Security Officer. Aubele brings decades of experience at leading retail organizations to the CSO role, which is the first such position for Salient.

A former Director of Loss Prevention for Walmart Stores Inc, and Senior Vice President of Loss Prevention for The Home Depot, Aubele will guide Salient’s approach to customer needs in the rapidly changing security landscape, as well as provide overall leadership and direction on corporate risk assessment, strategic planning and global initiatives on behalf of Salient. Aubele also serves on the Asset Protection Council with ASIS International and holds a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) with ASIS, and a Loss Prevention Professional certification (LPP) from Missouri Southern University.
