Weis Markets associates honored by Geisinger Trauma Services for life-saving action

MUNCY, LYCOMING CO. (WOLF) — Three Weis Markets associates were honored by Geisinger Trauma Services for putting their “Stop to Bleed” training into action to help a customer.

Employees at Weis’ Muncy on Penn Street — Assistant Store Manager Rosie Beach, Customer Experience Manager Emily Frederick and Floral Manager Shelbi Bischoff — were presented the Clinical Save Award for taking lifesaving action to help a Weis Markets shopper in February.

According to the company, last year, nearly three thousand Weis Markets associates took part in Geisinger’s Stop the Bleed LMS training course, which taught simple steps on how to stop or slow life-threatening bleeding.

Because of this training, Beach, Frederick and Bischoff were able to help a customer suffering a severe bleed due to a previous foot injury while shopping in Weis.

The Weis associates used materials found in the bleeding-control kits, which are strategically placed throughout all stores and provided to all Weis Markets members who completed the training.

“At Weis Markets, we take seriously our responsibility of ensuring associates are ready and equipped in case of an emergency, and we saw firsthand how flawlessly Beach, Frederick and Bischoff executed their preparation and training,” said Vice President of Asset Protection for Weis Markets William England, in a press release. “Their quick thinking and swift actions in an incredibly serious situation undoubtedly saved the customer’s life. We are thankful to Geisinger for their Stop the Bleed training and teaching our team life-saving skills and solutions.”

“The Stop the Bleed training equips our community and local businesses with life-saving skills to immediately respond to an emergency,” said Trauma Education Coordinator for Geisinger Medical Center Deb Erdman in a press release. “We’re proud to continue providing this resource to our communities and the collaboration with Weis Markets and their employees. This is a great example of how this program can have a great impact on our neighbors.”
