POLICE have busted a crime ring that saw thousands of dollars worth of goods stolen from Target stores.
96 people were arrested on theft charges in one weekend by cops in Sacramento, California.
The Sheriff’s Office posted images of some of the merchandise that was taken.
These items ranged from everyday goods, like razors and body wash, to more expensive items, like a baby stroller and skincare. Cops also shared the extreme ways some of these people took goods. “One pair of female suspects used an empty baby carrier concealed with a blanket to mimic a sleeping child to hide their stolen items,” cops said.
“In two incidents, suspects took items from the store with a marked Sheriff’s patrol vehicle parked in front of the exit doors.”
People on Facebook took to the comments to share their thoughts on the sting operation. “Man some of those items are big,” one person said. “They really thought they were being slick,” another person wrote. “It’s good to finally see repercussions for these crimes. Thank you,” a third commentator said.
Retail crime has been on the rise in recent years and companies have introduced several measures to try and prevent it. ome of these include security tags, receipt checks as customers exit the stop, and items locked behind plexiglass. The U.S. Sun has reported on the controversy between these measures and the store’s customers. One customer shared images of their Target store that had most rows and aisles locked behind glass.
This shopper said they would rather drive 30 minutes to another store to avoid this.
