‘Why have that option?’ asks Walmart shopper after being ‘made to look like a criminal’ thanks to self-checkout choice

Minnesota shoplifting bust narrowly thwarts potential mass-shooting planned by suspect: ‘Deathtoamerikka’

A WALMART shopper claimed that he was made to look like a criminal after being subject to a receipt check.

Not every Walmart store carries out receipt checks, unlike membership stores such as Costco and Sam’s Club, but the inspections take place at some stores.

It appears that it’s down to the discretion of store bosses whether to carry out the checks.

Eddie Wolfreys (@Eddiee_91) asked the retailer why shoppers can choose not to receive a receipt but are then subject to the inspection.

“Pain in the a** when you’re made to look like a criminal when attempting to leave the store,” he fumed on X, formerly Twitter.

He is not the only shopper who has criticized the option on the self-checkout machines.

“If you are going to give ‘no receipt’ options on self-checkout, why do I always get stopped when I have one in my hand?” another shopper fumed.

Receipt checks have been widely criticized by Walmart shoppers.

Some are offended by the thought that door greeters would think they’ve tried to steal goods.

Walmart does not have a policy regarding receipt checks and store workers have reportedly been told they shouldn’t risk their safety if a customer refuses to show the piece of paper.

Shoppers have shared their tactics on how they try to avoid catching a store worker’s attention.

Some have vowed never to give in to the requests of receipt checks.

One Walmart customer claimed they told workers the chain isn’t Sam’s Club after being asked to display their receipt.

Sam’s Club, a wholesale chain with 600 stores, is owned by Walmart Inc.

Legal experts at Lawyers.com have warned that shoppers should comply with the terms and conditions set out by membership clubs.

They explained that customers have signed a contract by agreeing to take on a subscription.

But, lawyers warned that shoppers might want to comply with the checks to avoid hassle.

They warned that store workers should only detain suspected shoplifters.

Receipt checks must not be discriminatory, per West Coast Trial Lawyers.

The inspections are standard practice at Costco warehouses across the US.

Staffers check receipts to ensure items have been processed correctly and the inspections help maintain accuracy.

TikTokers, purporting to be former Costco workers, have claimed the inspections are not solely a way of mitigating theft.

But, shoppers have complained about how the checks sometimes result in long lines.
