Dramatic video shows nearly 25 suspects robbing a California jewelry store in a $1 million heist.
WASHINGTON — Nearly $1 million worth of merchandise was stolen during a brazen daytime armed robbery of a jewelry store in San Ramon, California.
Surveillance video captured approximately 25 people storming into Heller Jewelers at City Center Bishop Ranch on Monday, Sept. 22.
The robbers entered the store and began smashing glass display cases, according to a press release from the San Ramon Police Department. At least three of the individuals had guns, while the rest carried a mix of crowbars and pickaxes.
“So, when they went in, they basically took over the store,” San Ramon Police Department Lt. Mike Pistello described.
But as the suspects worked to take whatever jewelry was available, the doors locked behind them. Police told ABC7 News that was part of a security measure put in place after the jewelry store was robbed two years ago.
With the suspects locked inside the store, cellphone video showed at least one of them firing a shot to break the glass door open.
The suspects stole an estimated $1 million worth of jewelry, police said.
Heller Jeweler’s security camera footage captured the robbery inside the store and a second drone video from police captured the suspects running to six getaway cars parked outside of the store and fleeing the scene.
San Ramon police officers pursued some of the vehicles but discontinued due to the danger to the public.
San Ramon police told CBS Bay Area that so far they’ve arrested six adults and one minor in connection with the robbery.
Hellers Jewelers expressed gratitude for the support the company received after the robbery in a post on Facebook. “We are deeply grateful that nobody was harmed. That is what matters most,” the post read.
The jewelry store plans to reopen its doors on September 27.
