TWO products are being recalled at Kroger as they have been found to contain a ‘fatal bacteria contamination.’
The massive recall comes as Walmart recalled a product with the same bacteria that killed four people.
Certain pasta salad bowls at the grocery chain will be removed from shelves nationwide due to a possible listeria contamination, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
On Saturday, Kroger voluntarily recalled its Basil Pesto Bow Tie Salad and Smoked Mozzarella Penne Salad.
The recall follows a previous announcement by Albertsons regarding its products containing pasta ingredients.
Kroger’s recalled pastas were manufactured in Roseville, California, by Nate’s Fine Foods and sold across 1,860 stores.

The product was also sold at Kroger’s subsidiary stores such as Fred Meyer, Ralphs, and Dillons.
Any customer who bought the pasta salad from August 29 to October 2 should not consume them and return it for a full refund.
According to the recall announcement, Kroger was first notified about the possible Listeria contamination on September 26.
The grocery chain was notified again about the outbreak on October 2, resulting in a recall on October 4.
Listeria is a bacteria that can spread across food.
When a person contracts it, they can experience mild flu-like symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, and nausea.
However, in extreme cases, humans can die from the bacteria.
Those who are pregnant, newborns, or senior citizens may be at a higher risk of suffering extreme symptoms from the bacteria.
Anyone who bought a contaminated product is urged to use extra vigilance when cleaning surfaces to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
No injuries or illnesses have been reported from the recall.
Symptoms of a Listeria infection
Listeria is a bacteria that leads to a disease called listeriosis.
The bacteria is found in many places, including soil, water, sewage, rotting vegetation, and animals, and it thrives in unsanitary food production conditions, leading to contamination of food.
Symptoms of listeriosis include:
- For the less severe, non-invasive listeriosis, mild symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may occur, and often persist for 1 to 3 days.
- For the more severe, life-threatening invasive form of the disease, symptoms may include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
- Invasive listeriosis is a potentially life-threatening sickness, especially for newborns, adults over the age of 65, and those with weakened immune systems.
- Symptoms of listeriosis during pregnancy may be mild or go unnoticed.
- However, it can lead to severe outcomes, such as miscarriage, stillbirth, premature delivery, or a life-threatening infection of the newborn.
Anyone who suspects they’ve developed symptoms of a listeriosis infection is urged to contact their healthcare provider.

Walmart recently recalled its Scott & Jon’s Shrimp Scampi after a listeria outbreak.
The contamination caused 20 people to suffer illness, and four people to die.
Of the four who died, one of the victims was a fetus.
“Walmart and Sam’s Club are committed to the health and safety of our customers and members and to providing products that are safe and compliant, all supported by our health and wellness, product safety, and food safety professionals,” the recall notice stated on its website.
