A WALMART shopper who was blocked from leaving the store by a receipt checker in a viral video has shared more revealing details about the encounter.
Shoppers have now been taking to social media for years to post their gripes about the growing prevalence of receipt checkers at popular retail stores like Walmart and Costco.
In response, dozens of legal experts have posted about whether employees have a right to ask for a receipt or — more importantly — detain shoppers who refuse to provide one.
One shopper named Travis Lee (@travisleeragan) has posted a follow-up explanation to a fiery video of a confrontation he had with a receipt checker at his local Walmart earlier this year.
“Yesterday I went to Walmart and got diesel exhaust fluid and four gallons of windshield wiper fluid. Instead of going to self-checkout, I went to the cashier,” he explained in the TikTok video.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that [the employee] did not see me,” Lee said.

“On my way out… [the employee] wants to see my receipt. I tell [him] thank you, I just don’t have time today and I tried to walk past him,” the shopper said.
“[He] jumps in front of me and puts his hands on my cart. I asked him to please move, and he refused.”
Lee believed the situation could have escalated even further.
“I did feel threatened, I probably could have done something a little bit more aggressive, but I didn’t. I didn’t want to lose my cool.”

And after apparently contacting Walmart to complain about the situation, Lee was still unsatisfied.
“I feel as though yesterday was definitely uncalled for on Walmart’s behalf.”
“When they called me back, they said, ‘[The employee] got a level red warning’. He’s still working the door. He’s still employed. I didn’t want him to lose his job, but I also don’t feel as though he should be working the door,” he said.
In the original viral video, viewers can see Lee trying to leave a Walmart and having his exit blocked by [the employee] after he refused to show his receipt.
“Walmart employee gets physical and holds me hostage after I paid for my stuff!!” the on-screen text of the original clip says.
Lee and the associate can be seen arguing back and forth about whether the employee has the right to block Lee’s exit before a manager comes and the video ends shortly after.
Lee’s first viral video was viewed over 44 million times and received more than 140,000 comments.
The influencer‘s follow-up explanation was viewed almost four million times and attracted 25,000 comments.
“When I worked at Walmart if you even try to stop a customer you were fired on [the] spot,” one person commented.
“Just show [the employee] the receipt. Don’t degrade him because of his Walmart job. Mutual respect lacking on both parties,” another replied.

“I don’t like Walmart at all but being you were on a time crunch. Would it not have been faster just to show the receipt,” a third questioned.
The U.S. Sun has contacted Walmart for comments.
