OCOEE, Fla. – Surveillance video released on Thursday shows the moments leading up to an Ocoee officer opening fire on a driver of a stolen vehicle.

Ocoee police Chief Vincent Ogburn presented the video, which showed what happened around 11:20 a.m. Sunday in the parking lot of a Publix on Ocoee Apopka Road.

According to the Ocoee Police Department, officers were searching for a stolen vehicle out of Orange County and tracked it to the Publix’s parking lot.

Video shows two officers approaching the stolen BMW driven by 54-year-old Stacie Lynn Guerrero, police said. It appears that one of the officers was speaking to Guerrero before the other officer joined.

As the other officer was walking up to the driver’s door, the vehicle backed up and the officer attempted to open the door. As the vehicle backed up, the officer was caught in the door and trapped, Ogburn said.

“They’re engaging her at the car, talking to her … You can see the officers are trying to get her out of the car,” Ogburn said. “She backs up, striking the officer, striking the patrol car.”

The other officer ended up in front of the vehicle, which was then moving forward toward him.

One of the officers then opened fire and struck Guerrero, police said. She was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

“I can’t say they knew that vehicle was occupied when they approached it,” the chief said.

Ogburn said the officers were being proactive in the search for the stolen vehicle and happened to locate it at the Publix.

Prior to the incident with the two officers, Guerrero was suspected of shoplifting at the Publix and had prior history of shoplifting at that location, officials said.

News 6 obtained documents earlier this week that revealed Guerrero had entered the Publix along with another woman, Andrea Barboza, who was a passenger in the SUV.

Guerrero reportedly “caught the eye” of a store manager who recognized her from prior thefts, an arrest report states. She noticed him following her and left the cart inside the store and returned to the BMW, police said.

Barboza was arrested for petit theft. The arrest report noted her criminal history included one in Florida in February 2025 and one in Ohio in 2001, and states she had an active warrant out of Seminole County for theft.

News 6 also looked into Guerrero’s criminal history and discovered she’s been arrested multiple times over the last three decades in Orange, Marion, Hillsborough and Martin counties.

The two officers were placed on paid administrative leave, per protocol.

“We take this incident very seriously. We ask the community for their patience as the investigation is ongoing,” Ogburn said.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
