
The initiative took place on Tuesday, March 18, and involved compliance checks at 16 retail locations across the county, New York State Police said on Wednesday, March 19.
During the operation, an underage operative went to buy alcohol at multiple businesses. At two locations, the sale was allegedly not denied, resulting in the following arrests:
- Alvin B. Bonilla, a clerk at the Mobil Gas Station at 2495 Carmel Ave. in Brewster;
- Catherine A. Butts, a clerk at the Mobil Gas Station at 3081 Route 22 in Patterson.
Both clerks were charged with violating the New York State Alcohol and Beverage Control Law and will face legal proceedings, police said.
Meanwhile, 14 other businesses passed the test. Police listed them as:
- Shell – Patterson;
- Acme – Patterson;
- Shell – Carmel;
- Tops – Carmel;
- Putnam Wine and Spirits – Carmel;
- Mobil – Carmel;
- BP – Carmel;
- Exxon – Carmel;
- Grapevine Wine and Spirits – Carmel;
- Shop Rite – Carmel;
- Rite Aid – Carmel;
- Sunoco – Carmel;
- Wine On the Way – Brewster;
- Mobil – Brewster.
Police said that enforcement operations will continue to make sure businesses properly verify the age of all alcohol purchasers.
