A 45-SECOND TikTok has shown an entire isle of locked laundry and cleaning supplies, leading to outrage in the comments.

The Walmart shopper said she was left waiting for staff after the items she needed were all trapped behind glass.

In a TikTok with 568,400 views and 11,800 likes as of Monday, user Becca (@oh_hey_itzme) walks down a Walmart aisle only for every shelf to be locked behind glass.

Many stores have begun to take the preventative step and lock their items behind glass as executives say shoplifting has increased.

In 2022, Walmart CEO Doug McMillion made a statement regarding the excessive theft at Walmart stores.

“Theft is an issue. It’s higher than what it has historically been,” he told CNBC.

“We’ve got safety measures, security measures that we’ve put in place by store location,” continued McMillon.

Walmart’s CEO stressed reliance on local law enforcement to ensure security measures are in place.

“If that’s not corrected over time, prices will be higher, and/or stores will close,” McMillon stated.

The distress behind this decision has been voiced publicly on social media.

Some shoppers have said they had to wait up to 40 minutes for an employee to unlock the shelves, they said.

“This is pretty friggin’ sad that everything in Walmart is locked up,” said Becca.

“I mean, really guys? Really? I have to wait for someone to come…and get me dishwashing liquid?”

Viewers took the comments, sharing their own experiences and views on the situation.

“I waited 40 minutes for someone to unlock the doors so I could get a toothbrush once. Never again,” stated one user.

“They have the spray paint locked up at ours. I get why but I immediately turned around and went to Michael’s. Didn’t have time to wait for someone,” another person wrote.

“The Walmart in my area has everything locked up too and no more self check out and the lanes are blocked off unless you pay you ain’t leaving,” a third wrote.

“They did this to pregnancy tests where I live but that’s too extreme,” said another.

Though this method may be helping the retail theft issues, it is losing customers in the process.

“The way I’d leave immediately, like turn around as soon as I saw the first aisle locked up and go somewhere else and never return,” expressed a user.

“It’s crazy, but I stopped going to Walmart ever since they started self-checkout,” wrote a commenter.

“I would turn around and walk back out. I have social anxiety no thanks. I’d go somewhere else,” stated another.

However, some people agree with locking up items due to experience.

“As many times I purchased detergent and it was 1/2 a bottle, I totally agree with this!”, noted the user.

People in the comments blamed the locking of items on stealing, self-checkout, demographics, and the government.

“Thank the thieves. Otherwise, Walmarts will start closing to customers and online shopping will be the only option,” stated the commenter.

“Because people won’t stop stealing. Not Walmart’s fault. Criticize the community who is causing the problem and stealing,” said another.
