A TARGET employee has shown what reportedly happens to seasonal candy at one store once the holidays are over.
Shoppers were shocked when a Target associate said that their location was throwing out 534 packs of holiday M&M’s despite nothing being wrong with them.
The worker shared a photo of a shopping cart full of candy that was set to go to waste, they said.
“All of these are going to waste just because they are salvaged out and we aren’t allowed to take them anymore and they most likely aren’t going to get donated like it’s supposed to. And they are still good until next year,” they wrote on Reddit.
Viewers of the post, especially other retail workers, were surprised that Target wasn’t going to donate the candy.
“How do stores not donate?” one person asked.

“The food bank near us comes to pick up stuff once a week and most, if not all, food items that are not vendor pick up get donated. Even stuff that is sent to toss we usually can donate if possible.”
Another commenter claimed that the Target they worked at had a similar issue that they solved themselves.
“I personally talked to the donation people when they came in and asked for their coordinator’s numbers and they arranged for pick-ups at our store every day, Monday through Friday,” they said.
“They are willing to pick up, they just need to know you want it.”

Some people suggested it was “crazy” and that the company would not allow workers to take the product.
“Oh that’s crazy, at mine they put them all in the break room. We have a mountain of M&M’s over there but it’s slowly going down,” a user wrote.
Another person added: “When items get marked as salvage they must go on the pallet and they get sold to whoever for a price, which makes us SOME money.
“We can’t take them because there’s a report of each and every item and quantity that gets marked as ‘salvage’ and when they don’t match up, it’s a hit on our records essentially. It’s a metric.”
The candy discussion comes as Target faced recent backlash over a new festive range in stores.
The retailer released holiday gear including a nutcracker holding a Pride flag and a Santa in a wheelchair.
Some shoppers were so outraged by the items that one said: “Never going back to target- dead to me.
However, others disagreed and said that they would go out and buy the nutcrackers just to show their support.

“I think I’ll go spend a few hundred dollars there tomorrow,” wrote one customer.
