The retailer was closed after a landslip caused various utility issues.

Target will remain closed for the foreseeable future, with it sharing that there are structural concerns could put people at risk.

It appears like the damage is significant, with neighbors of the area receiving notices of voluntary evacuations, reports Fox affiliate WCHS.

Footage from the area shows parts of the pavement raised and a yellow-looking substance being used to fill the gaps.

Target issued a statement, sharing that they’ll continue to work to verify if the store can be made safe again while helping out the people that have been affected.

“Target and local officials worked to secure the area and Target’s engineers will continue their work to determine the best course of action to stabilize the property,” reads the statement.

Target also revealed that the store will remain closed for an indefinite amount of time.

“In the interest of safety, the store will be closed for a prolonged period while we address the issues, and we are working with our team members to transfer them to nearby locations.”

“The safety of our team members and guests is our top priority, and we are thankful to the Barboursville Volunteer Fire Department, Cabell County Emergency Services, and city officials for their partnership.”

Following the landslip, Target claimed the store would be closed for a couple of days since it was undergoing construction related to its foundation.

It was afterward that the store had to issue a new statement to explain why the store wasn’t reopening.

The city’s mayor, Chris Tatum, has also spoken about the incident.

“Our mission is now eliminating any safety issues,” he said.

“I’m sure Target and its engineers will to it that no home is in harm’s way. We will continue to be good neighbors to facilitate the store’s reopening as soon as possible.”

Target has been reached out for comment.
