The NYPD is asking the public to help identify a perfume thief who, when confronted, brandished one of the bottles in a threatening manner at a Manhattan store employee before fleeing with $180 of the smelly stuff.
On Feb. 11 around 12:40 p.m., the scent swindler entered Blue Mercury, a cosmetics shop at Third Ave. and E. 88th St. on the Upper East Side.
The man, described by cops as being in his 50s and last seen wearing a black coat, blue jeans and white sneakers, began to swipe the bottles of fragrance from the shelves and stuff them in his clothing.
Cop said that, when confronted by a 48-year-old employee, the thief raised an arm at her in a menacing manner before running out the door.
No injuries were reported, police said.
