Montgomery County police are asking people who witnessed a shooting inside a Germantown Giant Food Store Friday night to come forward.
GERMANTOWN, Md. — Montgomery County police say two suspects opened fire inside a crowded Germantown Giant Food Store late Friday evening, forcing customers and staff to run for cover, before shooting a man they’d been chasing.
Police responded to the scene in the 18300 block of Leaman Farm Road around 8:45 p.m. after the shooting was reported.
On the scene, police found a man inside the store, suffering from a gunshot wound. According to police, the suspects chased the victim around the store, before he ran toward the checkout lanes.
They say the victim was shot twice. Despite the number of shoppers and employees, not other victims were identified by law enforcement.
The man — who has not been identified — was taken to a local medical facility, but police do not believe his injuries are life threatening.
Police are trying to identify the two suspects, and are asking witnesses who were inside the store to reach out.
They have not released any suspect information, nor have they released surveillance video from the store.
The Giant store is surrounded by several other stores and suburban, residential neighborhoods. Police have not indicated where the incident may have started, or why the suspects were chasing the victim.
