Destiney Whalen detailed the alleged incident, which happened at the Mechanicville Price Chopper on North Central Avenue, in a post on the “West Side News” Facebook group on Wednesday, March 19.
Whalen alleges that she, her boyfriend, and their baby were shopping when they encountered a U-boat cart—a long, narrow cart commonly used by retail employees to stock shelves—blocking the aisle.
“Being the gentleman he is,” her boyfriend moved the cart to make room for her stroller to pass,” she recalled. However, a store manager became upset over the action, confronting them in an “aggressive” manner, she claimed.
“She was very happy to chase us down after she put her hair up and escort us out of the store at 5:30 p.m. while we were there for dinner and diapers,” Whalen said.
She noted that a younger employee stocking shelves at the time apologized to her family, but she felt bad for workers who appeared uncomfortable with what was happening.
“I can’t imagine kicking a family out of their local grocery store because they moved a U-boat,” Whalen wrote.
She also expressed frustration that what was supposed to be a routine grocery run for dinner and diapers turned into a stressful ordeal in front of her child.
“It takes a miserable and unhappy person to look at my baby in the stroller and insist we leave,” she said.
