A 25-year-old Newark woman was arrested after buying a set of knives at Marshalls, which she allegedly used to stab another shopper following a dispute in the New Jersey department store’s checkout line.
Police in Kearny said they arrived at the retail outlet Saturday evening to find a woman in a parking lot bleeding from multiple puncture wounds to the torso she suffered after being stabbed by suspect Amber I. Thompson, according to the Observer.
Thompson is accused of making good on her threat to harm the victim “outside” following a confrontation involving delays at the checkout counter. She’s accused of purchasing a set of kitchen knives, removing one knife from its packaging, then using it to attack the victim outside the store.
Police said the victim was stabbed several times. Her wounds didn’t appear to be life threatening.
Officers located Thompson “in the Marshalls’ bathroom, with a kitchen knife laying atop the baby changing station,” according to NJ.com. She’s charged with second-degree aggravated assault, weapons offenses and fourth-degree endangering.
The Kearney Police Department hasn’t responded to a request for comment.
