The man allegedly hit the guard several times in the head, which led the guard, fearing for his safety, to draw his weapon and shoot a single bullet.
A 32-year-old man was shot by a security guard during an altercation outside of a Burger King in Dorchester on Saturday night, police said.
The man was transported to Boston Medical Center with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, said Boston Police Department spokesperson Mark Marron in a statement.
Police responded to a report of the incident at 100 Washington St. shortly before 9:30 p.m. and found the 30-year-old security guard with visible injuries to the eye, mouth, and head, according to the police spokesperson.
The guard alleged that the man had been staring at him and threatened to take his firearm. The man refused to leave when asked, which escalated to a “physical confrontation,” Marron said.
The man then allegedly hit the guard several times in the head, which led the guard, fearing for his safety, to draw his weapon and shoot a single bullet toward the man outside the Burger King.
The suspect fled to an MBTA station but officers caught up with him at Washington Street and Harvard Avenue, according to the statement.
Boston police are still investigating the incident, but have processed the scene, collected evidence, and conducted interviews, Marron said.
