SHOPPERS have shown their support for a Walmart customer who was left baffled over a recent receipt check.
The TikToker shared her experience online after a worker asked to see her proof of purchase when she left the store.
She noted that she had nearly $200 in food stamps and couldn’t understand why the company would need to carry out further checks.
“Walmart, almost $200 in food stamps, and you wanna ask me to see my receipt because my 12 pack of Gatorade is not in a plastic bag,” said TikToker Matty Newman (@mattybnewman) in a video from January.
She went on to confirm under the clip that her Walmart was located in North Florida.
The video has amassed almost 23,000 views, 583 likes, and 43 comments.

“No, I don’t one lady was like you don’t and I said no I don’t and she didn’t say nothing.”
Newman has not been the only shopper to share their receipt-checking experience on social media.
The U.S. Sun has previously reported how a shopper who took a major stance against Walmart’s policy.
“I refuse to check myself out! If they can’t provide a cashier I’m shopping elsewhere and don’t ask for my receipt when I leave,” the customer wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“You checked me once. You have scanners that know who is stealing. Don’t waste my time & insult me.”
The company said their “intent is to check every receipt,” according to a statement from a Walmart spokesperson told to ABC affiliate station KXTV.
The spokesperson went on to say that the policy was to prevent theft which keep inventory high, prices low and customers happy.
However, a TikTok lawyer believes that the practice isn’t legal.
“In Walmart, there is no law that allows a store to demand that you show your receipt,” Attorney Clay Payne said.
“A law called the ‘Shopkeeper’s Privilege’ allows a store to detain a suspected shoplifter for a limited amount of time if they have probable cause.

“Not showing your receipt isn’t enough for a detention. But it could be combined with other suspicions.”
