SHOPPERS have slammed major retailers for their trusting self-checkouts that are followed by an infuriating anti-theft measure.

On X, formerly Twitter, users are sharing a status that has made the rounds on social media by those who are boycotting self-checkouts and their accompanying receipt checks.
The post read: “Dear Targets, Kohl’s, Walmarts, ALDIs, Home Depot, Jewel & all other stores with self-checkout.
“You are heading towards almost exclusively self-checkout now.
“The lady checking receipts at the exit was stopping everyone. I didn’t choose to participate in that nonsense.”

It then detailed how this customer had been forced to load and unload their cart and scan all of the items themselves, before packing it all away again.
“You can either trust me to do self-checkout, or you can put your cashiers back in place like they used to be,” the post adds before calling others to share it on their social media.
One user replied agreeing with the post that it is “dumb” for retailers to trust customers to self-checkout but then force them to do a receipt check.
“I agree with the guy who thinks it’s dumb to trust him to self-checkout but make him wait in line to prove he paid.” the user wrote.

“Especially when shoplifters get to run wild and suffer no inconvenience.”
Numerous Walmart shoppers have even threatened to boycott the chain’s self-checkout lanes as a result of the checks.
Meanwhile, other shoppers have said that the checks make them feel like “suspects.”
Brian Simpson detailed his recent shopping experience at a Canadian Tire store in Toronto where he was blocked from leaving the self-checkout lane by a security guard who demanded to perform a receipt check.
“It made me feel like a suspect like I had done something wrong,” Simpson told CBC News.
“I don’t like that they’re … painting us all with the same brush, that they’re assuming that everyone who uses self-checkout is going to steal.”
“Maybe you need to rethink whether or not self-checkout is right for your location,” he added.
