A KROGER shopper has refused to comply with pesky self-checkout machines that are constantly in anti-theft mode and receipt checks to follow.
The self-checkout machine at the shopper’s Kroger would have multiple reminders to scan and would video record the process.
Kroger shopper Terreece Clarke shared her experience in a Facebook post in June.
“Yeah, it’s a no for me at Kroger on Main,” Clarke said.
“Not only does the self-checkout stop you every 4 items to remind you to scan and show you they are videoing, now they are checking receipts!
“The assumption of criminality when I’m spending MY hard-earned money on overpriced groceries

“And you got me doing a peep walk by the security guard to check my receipt?!
“They don’t do that at the Kroger up Broad.”
WONKY SELF-CHECKOUT
Clarke’s experience stirred up a response from some of her followers in the comments of her Facebook post.
“The frustration level with the wonky self-checkout at that store drives me bonkers,” one user wrote.

“You get to be your own cashier, be checked on the way and and . . . pay more!” another said.
“It’s ridiculous! Kroger is mad people are stealing but they are stealing my time!” someone chimed in.
“They have plenty of money to hire people. They are simply greedy.”
Kroger’s self-checkout has infuriated other shoppers as well in different scenarios.
The lines were seen wrapping around the store in a shopper’s photos shared on X.
Latest self-checkout changes
Retailers are evolving their self-checkout strategy in an effort to speed up checkout times and reduce theft.
Walmart shoppers were shocked when self-checkout lanes at various locations were made available only for Walmart+ members.
Other customers reported that self-checkout was closed during specific hours, and more cashiers were offered instead.
While shoppers feared that shoplifting fueled the updates, a Walmart spokesperson revealed that store managers are simply experimenting with ways to improve checkout performance.
One bizarre experiment included an RFID-powered self-checkout kiosk that would stop the fiercely contested receipt checks.
However, that test run has been phased out.
At Target, items are being limited at self-checkout.
Last fall, the brand surveyed new express self-checkout lanes across 200 stores with 10 items or less for more convenience.
As of March 2024, this policy has been expanded across 2,000 stores in the US.
The Kroger shopper posted and tagged the grocer suspecting there had to be a change they were unaware of because of how drastic the lines were.
“Is there a new policy I am not aware of?” the shopper said.
Another shopper asked Kroger to bring back bags that have handles on them.
The shopper said it is absolutely vital they have the handles.
And will need to drive to another store if they’re not returned at Kroger.
