A WALMART shopper has revealed how he will respond if workers order him to show his receipt.
The inspections have proved to be a bug bearer for some customers, prompting them to share innovative ways how to avoid them.
Some shoppers have admitted pretending they’re on a phone call while others just walk past, ignoring store workers’ pleas to flash the piece of paper.
One customer revealed their response involves goading the grocer.
“I’m going to borrow a pen and write an epic, horrible insult on the receipt,” they posted on X.
“Just to see how they might react.”

The outburst prompted other shoppers to chime in about whether shoppers are legally bound to show their receipts.
The checks have started to creep in at individual Walmart supermarkets but the chain, which has thousands of outlets, doesn’t have a specific policy.
Walmart shoppers can refuse to show their receipt, but such a move could create unnecessary hassle, lawyers have told The U.S. Sun.
This is unlike membership stores such as Costco or Sam’s Club.

Shoppers agree to a series of terms and conditions when they sign up with the wholesaler.
Costco has warned shoppers that receipt checks are just a standard practice.
Staffers glance at a shopper’s receipt when they leave to ensure items have been correctly processed.
“It’s our most effective method of maintaining accuracy in inventory control,” a post on the Costco website says.
The inspections also help ensure shoppers have been charged properly.
But Sam’s Club bosses are rolling out technology that will change how receipt checks are enforced.
The technology will essentially do a staffer’s job for them.
Workers can respond to customers’ queries, rather than being stationed at the exit door.
Scanners that verify goods in carts are being installed at warehouses.
Top 5 receipt checking tips from a lawyer

Camron Dowlatshahi, a Los Angeles attorney, spoke to The U.S. Sun about receipt checks and customer’s rights and options when it came to being asked to show your receipt.
- There has been a lot of debate around the legality of a retailer asking to see your receipt, but if it is within the store, it is completely legal. “There’s seemingly nothing illegal about that. You’re still on the company’s premises and their reason to do it is to prevent thefts,” Dowlatshahi confirms.
- However, if they are chasing you out of the store, that changes things, Dowlatshahi said. “Location matters,” he explained. “If you’re outside of the store you’re in the parking lot and they come and start accusing you of theft and that you have to show your receipt, I think that’s a bit of a different situation because now you’re on your way.”
- While customers are allowed to say no to receipt checks, it may cause issues if you do and the store suspects you of stealing. “You can say no, maybe it creates an unnecessary hassle for yourself because now you may have the police come to your house and follow up,” said Dowlatshahi.
- If you are being barred from leaving a store because you refused a receipt check, you could have a legal case — but the store must have held you for a long time. “Let’s say it’s for hours, that’s certainly false imprisonment, and they didn’t have any impetus for doing so,” Dowlatshahi explained. “If a customer has been emotionally traumatized by being held for false imprisonment, I would definitely encourage [them] to sue.”
- “I would say, show your receipt,” he concluded. “It’s just a really simple thing to do. If you didn’t steal anything, it’s relatively simple to do,” the lawyer advised.

The machines have already been installed inside at least 120 stores, but bosses say they want to install scanners in all warehouses by the end of the year.
Sam’s Club chiefs claim the machines mean shoppers can leave stores 23% faster than normal, per News Nation.
But no such contract exists at Walmart or other popular grocers like Kroger or Harris Teeter, which have rolled out the inspections at select stores.
Earlier this year, Kroger chiefs announced receipt checks will be carried out at six locations across Cincinnati, Ohio.
A spokesperson for the retailer confirmed the measure was being rolled out in light of safety concerns.
The measure has not been replicated across all Kroger outlets.
Receipt checks have also been introduced at Harris Teeter stores in Washington DC.

It was just one of the measures implemented as bosses scrambled to crack down on theft.
Harris Teeter bosses have also banned shoppers from bringing certain bags such as suitcases into stores.
