Claire's store closings: Here's the list, so far, of locations shutting down

WASHINGTON — Claire’s, a mall-based teen accessories retailer, has identified several locations across the country it plans to close after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

Claire’s U.S., which operates Claire’s and Icing stores, made the filing in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware on Wednesday. It’s the second time since 2018 the company has filed for bankruptcy. 

While the company says the majority of its retail stores will remain open while it “continues to explore all strategic alternatives,” Claire’s said it identified 18 stores ahead of the Aug. 6 bankruptcy filing it would close, filings show. 

Claire’s operates more than 2,750 Claire’s stores in 17 countries throughout North America and Europe, and 190 Icing stores in North America.

In total, 18 Claire’s and Icing stores will be closing, with sales at those locations finishing by Sept. 7, 2025, according to the company’s court filings. Five of the closures are Icing locations, while the other 13 are Claire’s stores. The filing noted that additional stores could close in the future.
