A fire extinguisher was used as a distraction during the robbery.

WASHINGTON — An investigation is underway at a Chanel store in Northwest, D.C. after a group of people walked into the downtown store on Sunday and stole an undisclosed amount of merchandise. This is the second time the store has been robbed this year by a “flash mob.”

At 5:30 p.m., officers with the Metropolitan Police Department responded to the store in the 900 block of I Street after hearing reports of gunshots.

An investigation reveals that two people held the door for four other people to come in and steal merchandise. Detectives say one of the four suspects who walked into the store allegedly deployed a fire extinguisher to distract the employees. The group took an undisclosed amount of merchandise and were attempting to flee the store when an armed special police officer, working for the store, fired his gun. Investigators do not believe the gunfire hit anyone.

Police held a news conference Sunday evening to update the public. Detectives say the group of robbers were last seen fleeing the scene in a white sedan.

No injuries or property damage were reported as a result of the robbery.

This comes after the same Chanel store was robbed by a group of people back in February. Police say 15 people, all in masks and hoods, are wanted for stealing handbags and other merchandise from the store also using a fire extinguisher as a distraction.
