Agri-Mark Inc., the Vermont-based maker of Cabot products, issued a voluntary recall for its 8oz Extra Creamy Premium Butter, Sea Salted after finished product testing detected high levels of bacteria, according to a federal release issued Wednesday, April 9.
The impacted butter is packaged as two 4-ounce sticks in a cardboard shell and can be identified by:
- Expiration Date: 09/09/25
- Lot Code: 072 or 073
- Time Stamp: 22:00–00:30
- UPC: 0 78354 62038 0
The recalled butter was distributed to stores in Pennsylvania, New York, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Arkansas, the FDA said.
The FDA classified the recall as a Class III event, meaning the product is unlikely to cause adverse health consequences.
Agri-Mark emphasized that 99.5% of the affected butter was recovered before reaching consumers. Only 17 retail packages — totaling about 8.5 pounds — were sold, all in Vermont, officials said.
No illnesses or complaints have been reported.
The company said it has identified the cause of the issue, taken corrective actions, and confirmed that no other Cabot products were impacted. Agri-Mark also criticized “dramatic misrepresentations” made by some media outlets regarding the recall’s risk to the public.
Consumers who purchased the butter are urged to check packaging carefully and contact Cabot Creamery if they have concerns:
- Email: info@cabotcreamery.com
- Phone: 1-888-792-2268 (Monday – Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. EST)
