WOODLAWN, Va. — Fairfax County detectives were asking for help Friday in a 25-year-old murder case involving a man who was killed inside a convenience store on Richmond Highway, along Route 1.

Surinder “Paul” Sharma, 43, was stabbed multiple times and killed inside his convenience store in Woodlawn, in the year 2000. And 25 years later, FCPD said they still do not have a suspect in the killing.

As part of the cold case investigation into Sharma’s killing, the Fairfax County Police Department released a video Friday that had officers going over the case and calling on community members to reach out with information.

FCPD’s Cold Case Detective Jon Long said that he believes that whoever killed Sharma may not have been interested in robbing the convenience store.

“The evidence in this case tells us that the primary motivation behind this crime may not have been a robbery. There were valuable items that were left at the scene,” Det. Long said in the video posted to YouTube by FCPD on Friday. “We believe there are people out there that have information about this crime and we are asking them to come forward.”

Sharma had lived in Hybla Valley with his wife and two children. One of Paul Sharma’s daughters, Anita, also appeared in the FCPD video.

“This fight is not just for my father, it’s for every family that has endured this type of pain. It’s for truth, for accountability, for justice that refuses to be forgotten,” Anita Sharma said. “Together we can prove that no life is too small to matter no loss to old to pursue. and no voice too quiet to be heard.”
