Position Purpose:

The Home Depot Division Director of Asset Protection will be responsible for driving execution of Asset Protection strategies related to theft and fraud mitigation, operational shrink, life safety, and environmental compliance. This role works cross-functionally to identify potential loss and within the division work by leading the Regional Asset Protection Manager(s) to support mitigation of total retail loss. They are responsible for driving alignment with field leaders to deliver on the company shrink deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

  • 20% – Cross Functional Partnership – Work cross functionally to support investigations, case governance and crisis/emergency response by partnering with the Store Support Center team and field leaders. This role also will collaborate extensively on Investigations with Organized Retail Crime, Central Investigation, Supply Chain and other THD Investigations teams as well as law enforcement partners.
  • 30% – Development & Engagement – Owns the development and engagement of the Regional / District Asset Protection Managers to ensure competency for all asset protection roles in the field and stores. Provides leadership and fosters professional growth and development of the asset protection teams.
  • 40% – Leads the Field Asset Protection – Leads the Field Asset Protection teams to drive execution of asset protection initiatives. Drive improvement in company deliverables through outlier management in Asset Protection and Safety deliverables.
  • 10% – Staffing, Retention, and Performance Management – Hires, trains, and manages all aspects of performance for the Asset Protection Team.

  • This Position typically reports to the Senior Director of Asset Protection
  • This Position has up to 5-8 Direct Reports

Travel Requirements:

  • Typically requires overnight travel more than 50% of the time.
     

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent periods are spent standing or sitting in the same location with some opportunity to move about; occasionally there may be a need to stoop or lift light objects (typically less than 8 pounds).
     

Working Conditions:

  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

A day in the life of a Director, Corporate Security & Investigations at VF looks a little like this.

This position is responsible for the development, ongoing support, education, and execution of the company’s Global Security programs across all facilities and businesses and will report to the Vice President, Security, Business Continuance, Loss Prevention, and Health & Safety. The ideal candidate will work closely with enterprise-wide business leaders, such as Brands, Finance, Legal, Digital Technology, Supply Chain, Travel, and Human Resources, to ensure the protection of company assets including people, properties, products, profits and preparedness.  The position will also be responsible for leading complex investigations across all aspects of the business.

  • Provide strategic and operational direction to leadership and sites globally on mitigation techniques to limit risk exposure to threats against the company’s assets; people, property, products and preparedness 
  • Implement and align resiliency strategies to include business continuity, crisis management, incident response and function restoration
  • Ensure that all security operational metrics and financial objectives are exceeded and clearly communicated to leadership
  • Align site security capital expenditures and operational investments with the priorities of executive leadership strategy
  • Liaison with local, state, and federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies
  • Partner to drive global strategies around Duty of Care, Workplace Violence Prevention, Travel Security, Incident Response and Executive Protection
  • Partner with Ethics and Compliance and HR regional leaders, investigate nefarious activity and provide guidance on course of action

The foundation skills you will need in this position are:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business administration or equivalent with a minimum of 12 years general management experience in the protective services field in a global environment or an equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.  
  • Master’s degree preferred.  
  • Professional Certification is highly desired (CFE, CPP, CFI, etc.)
  • Membership in industry association (OSAC, DSAC, ASIS etc.)
  • Experience driving security programs in Mexico, Central and South America
  • Ability to solve problems with a variety of complex variables through non-standardized solutions that require independent judgment and analysis. Ability to draw inferences and use deductive reasoning with no prescribed procedures to solve complex problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, motivate and lead team of professionals attuned to organizational culture, yet able to think and act creatively

Job Summary

Oversee and direct the company’s loss prevention function. Ensure the protection of the Company’s assets and employees through the professional implementation of loss prevention programs. Manage a loss prevention team that strategically controls internal/external theft, facility security and employee safety.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and drive all aspects of a loss prevention program, including Retail, Distribution Center, and Corporate locations, with the goals of employee safety, shrink reduction, and company risk mitigation.
  • Oversees the develop and maintenance of security plans for WinCo locations.
  • Lead the audit function for each location’s asset controls and other asset protection audits.
  • Implement prosecution and restitution measures when necessary.
  • Keep current with loss prevention advancements, technology and legal matters that could impact the methods and practices of loss prevention.
  • Identify, implement and maintain security measures and tools to ensure safety, security and theft deterrence.
  • Lead audit activities for 3rd party vendors ensuring proper controls and standards are met to prevent loss of merchandise during store delivery processes.
  • Manage investigations and ensure that investigation protocols are legal and defendable under scrutiny by the courts.
  • Provide audit training to Operations Management that will allow them to recognize potential loss exposures.
  • Develop and implement loss prevention programs that reduce internal/external theft and improve security.
  • Effectively recruit, assess, and develop loss prevention staff.
  • Manage the need for physical security when requested by all locations.
  • Manage the current and future need for alarm systems and other risk reduction systems and techniques.
  • Performs other duties as needed.


Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice/security management or related field or equivalent in Loss Prevention Operations, Business Administration, or closely related field OR equivalent education, training and/or experience demonstrating considerable knowledge of Loss Prevention operations in addition to the experience listed below.

Experience:

  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience in the successful implementation of loss prevention, shortage control, fraud prevention and related activities. Including experience implementing training programs for retail operations.
  • Strong team leadership, relationship building and cross-functional management experience.
  • Strong analytical ability to gather, interpret information develop, recommend, and implement solutions.
  • Demonstrating strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).

Ability to:

  • Travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Be available to respond to calls on urgent matters including after business hours, on weekends and holidays.
  • Write and speak clearly and succinctly in a variety of communication settings.

THE OPPORTUNITY
In this important role, you will lead the Asset Protection efforts in our largest and most complex markets. You will direct, support, and train Asset Protection RAPM’s and Market Investigators, as well as district and store management, in the design, development, administration, monitoring, and implementation of activities related to the protection of company assets.

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist the operations team in delivering shrink results in your area of responsibility.

  • Possess strong people skills the ability to quickly develop relationships and communicate with multiple internal and external business partners.
