The shop’s owner was monitoring surveillance cameras during the break-in.

A Kentucky man was arrested Monday in connection to a weekend break-in at a Norwood firearms shop, authorities said.

Aaron Woodrum, 33, is accused of breaking into Liberty Ordnance Supply, located at 100 Access Road, around 11:40 p.m. Sunday, according to a statement from the Norwood Police Department

The shop’s owner was monitoring surveillance cameras during the break-in and reported seeing a suspect, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, mask, and gloves, take firearms from display cases, police said.

Officers from both the evening and overnight shifts set up a perimeter and called for backup, with K-9 units and Massachusetts State Police arriving to assist, according to the police statement.

While searching the area, police reported finding damage to the building, consistent with a forced entry. A police dog tracked a scent to the backyard of a home on Neponset Street, where investigators found stolen firearms and clothing they believed the suspect wore during the robbery, authorities said.

After analyzing surveillance video and other evidence, authorities identified the suspect as Woodrum, who had visited the store several days before the break-in, according to the police statement.

Woodrum was taken into custody Monday morning after officers encountered him at a local hotel while responding to a separate report of a person refusing to leave the premises, police said.

Police Chief Christopher Padden commended the efforts of the responding officers and K-9 teams for their work in the case.

“The rapid response overnight, combined with strong investigative work, allowed officers to quickly identify and apprehend a suspect while also recovering the stolen firearms,” he said in a statement. “We are grateful to our local and state law enforcement partners for their assistance.”

According to court documents, Woodrum is charged with several felonies, including breaking and entering a firearm distributor, larceny of a firearm (four counts), vandalizing property (two counts), and breaking and entering a building during the nighttime with the intent to commit a felony. He additionally faces a misdemeanor charge of larceny under $1,200.

Police said the investigation remains active and further charges are anticipated. Investigators are reviewing Woodrum’s activities in the days preceding the robbery.

During his arraignment Monday in Dedham District Court, Woodrum was ordered to be held at the Norfolk County Correctional Center after failing to post a $100,000 cash bail, according to court documents.

A probable cause hearing is scheduled for June 17.
