Yonkers resident Tyson Hanner, 39, was arrested on Thursday, April 24 in connection with the incident, which happened in April 2024 at Kay Jewelers in the Jefferson Valley Mall in Yorktown, the Yorktown Police Department announced on Monday, April 28.

On the day of the alleged theft, April 22, 2024, officers responded to a report of a larceny at Kay Jewelers. When they arrived, Hanner had already fled the scene.

An investigation revealed that Hanner had asked to try on a gold chain valued at $3,799, but once the employee handed it to him, he ran out of the store without paying, police said.

Hanner was later identified as the suspect, and an arrest warrant was issued by the Yorktown Justice Court and signed by Judge Aviah Cohen-Pierson on November 29, 2024.

On April 24, 2025, the Westchester County Department of Corrections had Hanner in custody on an unrelated charge and transported him to Yorktown Justice Court to face the outstanding warrant.

He is now charged with third-degree grand larceny in connection with the incident, police said.

Hanner was arraigned before Judge Cohen-Pierson and released on his own recognizance, returning to the custody of the Department of Corrections. Hanner is scheduled to return to Yorktown Justice Court on Thursday, May 15, at 6:00 p.m.
