The Life Safety Alliance (LSA), an organization committed to improving global life safety and security through best practices, networking, and collaborations, announced that nominations are now being accepted for its 2025 Top 40 Global Thought Leaders in Security and Life Safety recognition program.
Following the reported success of last year’s inaugural program, this honor continues to bring enhanced objectivity, transparency, and rigor to the process of identifying influencers and thought leaders in the field. The Life Safety Alliance is a not-for-profit organization open to all members of the security and life safety community.
The 2025 program will once again recognize professionals across the spectrum, from life safety, physical security, and cybersecurity to risk management, loss prevention, and intelligence. Nominees include practitioners, service and technology providers, researchers, academics, and other specialists from around the world.
More than 250 candidates have already been identified for scoring, but LSA is seeking additional individuals who may not have come to its attention. LSA aims to expand its geographic coverage and capture a broader range of subject matter expertise within the industry. These areas include physical security, cybersecurity, risk management, loss prevention, intelligence, investigations, resilience/business continuity, asset protection, engineering/design, and others.
As in the 2024 program, candidate scores will be calculated using a proprietary algorithm based on various criteria covering the period of May 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025. These include published articles, speaking engagements, teaching roles, social media presence, volunteer positions, and other measurable factors that reflect true thought leadership in the industry.

Andrew Thorburn, Chair of the Top 40 Thought Leaders Committee, brings valuable experience to the program, having previously served as the Head Judge for the IFSEC Global Influencers in Security & Fire Awards.
“What sets the LSA Top 40 program apart is its focus on measurable, verifiable criteria rather than subjective assessment,” said Thorburn. “By evaluating factors such as published content, teaching roles, and professional engagement, we’re creating a recognition program that truly reflects meaningful contribution to our industry’s body of knowledge.”
Nominations are now being accepted through April 30, 2025. We encourage both self-nominations and nominations of others. Once accepted as nominees, candidates will have until May 31, 2025, to submit documentation of their accomplishments and professional activities. The final list of honorees will be announced in summer 2025.
Those selected for the Top 40 list will receive an LSA challenge coin commemorating their achievement as well as a virtual certificate.
