HARD-earned money vanished in the blink of an eye emptying a woman’s bank account believed to be due to a sneaky skimmer.
Lisa Hillmer of Kansas City, Missouri, claims she fell victim to a money-stealing skimmer while she was pumping gas for her car.
Hilmer claimed the skimmer wiped her bank account clean and she was left with no way to buy food.
“I was just devastated,” Lisa Hillmer told Fox affiliate WDAF.
“That was my grocery money.
“I was just like, what am I going to do now?”

Hilmer explained when she went to pay her grocery bill, her card declined and she had to dip into her savings.
“I had to spend some of my money that I was using on my trip to South Dakota, for my granddaughter’s graduation to buy a few groceries to get through the month,” Hillmer said.
CLEANED OUT
She called the bank and was informed two charges were made that she had nothing to do with.
The charges were from a store she had never been to.

Hilmer’s total balance of $250 was missing from her account after the fraud charges.
The declined card was the same one she used while pumping gas which made her suspicious.
Adding to Hilmer’s suspicion, a friend of hers also had $80 drained from his account after pumping gas.
“I used my card at the pump, and he used his card at the pump,” Hillmer told WDAF.
“So, I’m thinking it had to be a skimmer.”
However, Kansas City police were unable to confirm fraud charges, WDAF reported.
After getting her money stolen, Hilmer had a bold message to share with the thieves behind these scams.
What is a skimmer device?
A skimmer device is a fraud tool designed to steal sensitive information from credit or debit cards during transactions.
- Imagine a skimmer device as a sneaky thief that hides on ATMs or card machines.
- Its job is to secretly steal your credit or debit card information when you use it for a transaction.
- These devices are like tiny spies that can copy your card details, including the card number and PIN, without you even realizing it.
- Skimmers can be cleverly disguised to look just like the regular card reader, making them hard to spot.
- Once they have your information, bad guys can use it to make fake cards or buy things without your permission, causing a lot of trouble and stress.
- It’s important to always be cautious and check for anything unusual on card machines before using them to protect yourself from these sneaky devices.
“I’d like to tell them to get a job,” Hillmer said,
“And use that intelligence and drive that they have for something positive instead of being negative.”
Skimmers scams have been popping up frequently across the nation recently.
