A WALGREENS shopper has expressed their outrage over the retailer’s extreme anti-theft policies.
The user on X, formerly known as a Twitter, shared his experience trying to purchase personal items from his store in New York City.
“I feel bad for the @DuaneReade @Walgreens employees who have to go and unlock anything you want to purchase at their stores and stand with you while you decide if you want the Old Spice or without Anti-Perspirant,” he wrote in a post.
“Maybe those stores should just be automats?”
A Walgreens representative was quick to respond to the upset customer’s tweet.
“I appreciate you taking the time to express these concerns and provide this suggestion, JJ,” said the representative.

“I’d like to share your feedback with leadership.
“Please message to specify which location you visit most frequently (or had in mind when you posted this). ^MK”
The customer did not hold back.
“Anywhere in NYC, everyone (staff, customers) is miserable and annoyed with the lockdown,” said the user to the representative.

“All customers are treated like we plan on sliding some bubble gum up our sleeves.”
Walgreens thanked the user for their feedback and said they would include their comments in the case submitted on the user’s behalf.
The U.S. has previously reported on outraged customers upset about the over-the-top anti-theft measures major retailers are taking.
A Walgreens in San Francisco reportedly started locking more and more of their personal items away from customers as shoplifting issues have reached new heights.
While customers are outraged, an employee told The San Francisco Standard that there are at least “Fifteen, 20 [thefts per day].”
“They’d take everything,” one said.
